Encounter is a photographic project, where I captured the movements of wind which formed a freeze-frame sculpture, combined with the human body. Although the wind is rather intangible, it can still be perceived through the sense of touch. However, by adding the fabric element to the momentary frame whilst the human body draws into with the wind, this instantaneous visual effect not only creates a different sense from the common human body, but also brings the dynamic wind to life. Both the human body and the fabric cease to be figurative and form a new sculptural form in which a symbiosis between the wind and body is manifested. Through these unconventional compositions, I challenge the boundaries and barriers of the relationship between man and nature, and thereby guide the viewers to perceive the impact of individuals on the natural environment.
Exhibition Display
For this project, I plan to exhibit eight of my photographs. I will erect eight walls in the shape of an octagonal prism and then install an LED screen on each wall to display my work. At the same time, I will suspend a piece of red fabric from a thin wire over the gallery and install a blower at the top of the eight walls used to display the work, using the wind from the blower to create a gentle flutter of red fabric over the gallery and bring the concept of wind into the exhibition. In the gallery, the three elements - the wind from the blower, the eight surrounding walls and the red fabric - create a sense of wrapping feeling; at the same time, the red fabric overhead gives the viewer a real sense of how to connect with the wind through the fabric as a medium; these two forms in exhibition work together to emphasise the symbiotic concept of wind and people in the work.
