In Origin, I used the red soil and the human body as my subject, expressing the intimacy of Chinese people towards our Soil. In Chinese ancient philosophy, the world is composed of five elements: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth/Soil; where soil is the only element that contributes to the human body. Derived from 'The Book of Changes' (I Ching), which also states that: all things (including humans) cannot reincarnate beyond the soil, the dead shall be buried in the soil in order to return to their origins. Therefore, in my shooting process, I integrated the soil with the human body as replacements by shaping clay into organs. This project reflects soil as the origin of human, which deepens the impression of soil in the Chinese culture, which provokes the significance of soil.
